Elephants were suffering in zoos and an imminent vote by the City of Toronto would determine their fate: a life spent languishing in captivity or prospering in an elephant sanctuary.  With little time and few resources, a citizens advocacy group mobilized, garnered support from high-profile Canadians, and used social media to build public support, launch an on-line petition, court the media and galvanize action. Toka, Thika and Iringa made it safely to the sanctuary, their costly journey funded by Bob Barker, legendary host of “The Price is Right.”
