When Covid-19 struck, we took an annual, in-person event and turned it into a streamed show, making it Canada’s most popular medical research competition. Thousands of viewers tuned in as six teams of top scientists vied for $500,000 in funding to bring their research projects to life. Celebrity judges, including retail guru Joe Mimran, tech star Michele Romonow and neuroscientist Samantha Yammine (‘Science Sam),’ asked the tough questions. Jurors and viewers voted for their favorites. Winning teams went home with three of the top medical prizes in the country. Sponsors garnered millions of impressions in broadcast, print, digital and social media. The biggest winners? Patients. Since it began, Angels Den has led to 12 life-changing devices, 5 spin-off companies, 7 new treatments, 10 patents and millions in new research dollars.
