Canada and the United States were the only two English-speaking countries without a women’s literary award. So a group of business and literary luminaries established the Carol Shields Prize for Fiction in honour of the late, legendary author who won the Pulitzer Prize and dreamed of giving women’s stories the profile they deserve. With help from the It’s Time campaign, the group has raised millions, and the inaugural prize is set for 2023.
